There are many ways to support our farmers simply by making changes to the way you get your food.
One of the best things we can do for our bodies, our environment and Australia's farming industry is to source our food as close to where it has been grown, raised and harvested.
Here are some ideas:
- Look out for and purchase Australian fruit and vegetables and think about where the food you are buying originates.
- Break the habit of doing your weekly shop at one of the big two supermarkets.
- Get your groceries home delivered by a company that sources their produce from local farmers. Have a look online and see who delivers in your area.
- Grow your own vegies - can't get fresher than that!
- Schedule a weekend visit to your local Farmers' Markets. These wonderful places are springing up all over the country and offer a wide variety of the freshest seasonal produce.
To find out a Farmer's Market near you, or if you want to start a Farmers' Market, visit the informative website of the Australian Farmers' Markets Association at www.farmersmarkets.org.au.
To add your market to our featured list here, email info@saveaustralianfarming.org with the name of market, address, opening hours and day/s. If you have any photos of the market, we'd love to have one to go with your listing.
